About the physical and chemical properties and resource distribution of powdered quartz

Academy

Powdered quartz is a kind of natural powdered quartz deposit, weathered from microcrystalline quartzite, widely used in ceramics, insulating materials, glass fiber, plastic fillers, refractory materials, rubber, insulation materials, precision casting and other fields.

1、Physical and chemical properties of powder quartz
(1)Physical properties
Powder quartz is mainly composed of microcrystalline quartz, which has a white, light yellow-white or off-white appearance. If it is contaminated by iron or other impurities, it will show brown-red or yellow, with a balanced particle size and a loose structure. The natural particle size is usually 5-50μm , with high purity and no impurities, it can be applied without grinding.
Powder quartz can naturally disintegrate into natural particle size after being placed in water or dried; its natural humidity is generally 8%, saturated water absorption rate is 37%, density 2.64~2.66g/cm³, specific surface area is 3600c㎡/g, Mohs The hardness is 7, and the refractive index is 1.544~1.553. Powdered quartz has strong thermal and chemical stability, and its melting point can reach 1770~1790℃.

(2)Chemical composition
Affected by the place of origin, the chemical composition of powdered quartz is different. The chemical composition of powdered quartz is mainly SiO₂, and the content can reach 95%~98%, followed by Fe, Mg, Al, Ca, Li, Na, K, Ge, B and other impurities.
2、The distribution of fine quartz deposits in China
As the evolution of the silty quartz from the siliceous rocks, the distribution of the silty quartz deposits in China is closely related to the siliceous rocks. The proven silty quartz deposits are mainly distributed in the south, concentrated in Chongqing, Jiangxi, Guizhou, Guangxi, Fujian, Qinghai, Hunan and other places.

The rapid development of new glass drives a huge demand for quartz
