Quartz products are primarily used in single crystal silicon manufacturing and wafer fabrication. The semiconductor industry is divided into three steps: chip design, chip manufacturing, and packaging and testing. Chip manufacturing can be further divided into single crystal silicon wafer manufacturing and wafer fabrication. Quartz materials are primarily used in these two steps. Quartz boats, quartz tubes, and quartz instruments are essential materials for cleaning, oxidation, photolithography, etching, and diffusion processes in the semiconductor chip manufacturing process.
Semiconductor manufacturing processes require a large number of quartz products. These processes are categorized into high-temperature and low-temperature processes, depending on the operating temperature. High-temperature processes include diffusion and oxidation, while low-temperature processes include etching, packaging, photolithography, and cleaning.
1) In high-temperature processes, quartz products must operate continuously for several hours at temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees Celsius. Therefore, they must be heat-resistant, thermally stable, and resistant to deformation. Quartz products are primarily composed of silicon dioxide. Hydroxyl groups alter the bonding structure of silicon dioxide, reducing the thermal stability of the material and significantly reducing the heat resistance of quartz products. Therefore, quartz products used in high-temperature processes must undergo a dehydroxylation treatment. Furthermore, high-temperature processes also require quartz products to possess corrosion resistance, good light transmittance, and low impurity content.
2) The working temperature of the low-temperature process is relatively low, and there is no requirement for high-temperature resistance of quartz products, nor is there a requirement for the hydroxyl content of the quartz material. In the low-temperature process, the performance requirements of quartz products are mainly corrosion resistance, good light transmittance, and low impurity content. Quartz glass products are key materials in the semiconductor industry and the photovoltaic industry.
